Program Description

The Pelvic Floor

The pelvis has a "hammock" or "sling" of muscles, located in the lower abdomen, that stretches across your pelvic floor. For both men and women, the pelvic floor supports the bladder, bowel, rectum and urethra and maintains urinary and fecal continence. In women, these muscles support the uterus and play an important role in vaginal childbirth.

Services Provided

The GW Pelvic Floor Center is a unique program dedicated specifically to restoring function in the pelvis. The Center¿s multidisciplinary program comprises the medical services of urologists, colorectal surgeons and gynecologists who are recognized and respected by peers for their precise urologic, colorectal and gynecologic subspecialties.

Experts from the GW Pelvic Floor Center review complex cases and determine the best treatment plans for patients. Physicians at the Center are up-to-date on academic and best practice principles. They also develop consistent evaluation and treatment algorithms for commonly seen pelvic floor disorders.
