Damian P. Alagia, III, MD, FACOG, FACS is the Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. His primary interest is minimally invasive benign gynecologic surgery, specifically the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and fibroids. Over the past several years, he has lectured extensively and developed instructional clinical symposia for both attending physicians as well as resident physicians in the use of fluid management systems and electrosurgical instruments in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
Dr. Alagia is currently working with Ethicon Women’s Health and Urology, the women’s health care division of Johnson & Johnson on the new technologies directed at management of uterine fibroids and AUB.
Dr. Alagia earned his medical degree from Georgetown University. He then trained in general surgery at the University of Louisville, in Louisville, Kentucky, and completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Georgetown University Hospital. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists.
In addition, Dr. Alagia completed his MSB and MBA in finance from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He received an America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists award in 2004 from the Consumers Research Council of America in 1999 and 2002. Dr. Alagia was voted one of “Washington’s Best Doctors” in Washingtonian magazine. He also received the Hugh H. Hussy Medical Student Teaching Award for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching.
