Intrathecal Drug Delivery

Initially developed for the delivery of medications directly into the spincal canal for cancer patients, intrathecal catheters provide a system to provide analgesia with much lower doses than required either orally or intravenously. Medications including narcotics and other agents are often utilized for this purpose. Prior to implantation of a permanent system, a trial procedure is undertaken to determine the effectiveness of this delivery method.
