Eugene Meyer Professor of Medicine
Alan Wasserman, MD, is the Eugene Meyer Professor of Medicine and the Chairman of the Department of Medicine at The GWU School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President of The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates.
Dr. Wasserman is a graduate of Hahnemann Medical College. He completed a residency at Abington Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in Cardiology at The George Washington University Medical Center. After completing an extra year devoted to research, Dr. Wasserman spent an additional year at three separate institutions, NIH, Yale and Johns Hopkins learning the then new field of Nuclear Cardiology. He then returned to The George Washington University Medical Center established the first Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory in the Washington, DC area.
Dr. Wasserman is a Master of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. His clinical and research activities have comprised areas of cardiology including cardiac imaging, ischemic heart disease and preventive cardiology. His current research interests involve the use of Electron Beam Computerized Tomography for the early diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of patients with Coronary Artery Disease.
