Dr. Samir Agarwal
About Dr. Samir Agarwal

Samir Agarwal, MD, is a colon and rectal surgeon at The GW Medical Faculty Associates and is an assistant professor of Surgery at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He completed his undergraduate studies at Boston College and graduated with high honors. He earned his medical degree at West Virginia University. Following medical school, he completed a residency in general surgery at West Virginia University—Charleston, where he served as chief resident. After residency he pursued fellowship training in Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at University of California—San Diego under the guidance of Dr. David Hoyt and Dr. Raul Coimbra. Dr. Agarwal returned to West Virginia University—Charleston after his fellowship.  He served as an assistant professor of Surgery for three years. He was an active member of the trauma team and leader of trauma research. Dr. Agarwal went on to pursue a second fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis under the guidance of Dr. James Fleshman.


Dr. Agarwal is interested in all aspects of colon and rectal surgery with particular interest in transanal excision of tumors. He is versed in open surgery, laparoscopic surgery, transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), anorectal surgery as well as colonoscopy. 


Dr. Agarwal is board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He is board eligible in Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Agarwal is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
