Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)

DEFINITION

Face Lift improves sagging facial skin, jowls, and loose neck skin by removing excess fat, tightening muscles and redraping skin. The procedure is usually performed under 'twilight' anesthesia on an out-patient basis, but some patients may require brief hospital stays. Patients may experience temporary bruising, swelling, numbness and skin dryness or tenderness. Men may need to pursue laser hair removal where the beard is repositioned behind the ears. Potential complications include nerve injury, (which is usually temporary), infection, bleeding, scarring, asymmetry or change in hairline, skin loss, or hair loss. Patients usually return to work and to strenuous activity within two to three weeks. Results last up to 10 years.
