Fillers plump skin on the face or hands which has lost volume to the aging process. Filler materials range from body fat and collagen to natural acids to synthetic materials and are generally offered on an outpatient basis under local anethesia.
Fat Injections offer a short term solution for people who want to plump cheeks and lips, or to fill lines and wrinkles on the face. The injections are generally delivered during an out-patient procedure under local anesthesia. Fat cells are removed from the buttocks, stomach or thighs, then purified by the doctor. They are transplanted to desired areas with a series of injections. Patients may experience significant swelling and bruising which lasts for several weeks or months. Results are unpredictable. If the fat cells don't get a sufficient blood supply at the transplant site, the cells will not take and they will be reabsorbed into the body. Repeated treatments may be necessary. The effect can last as little as a few weeks or up to one year. Risk of complication is typically minimal.
