Hal A. Frazier, M.D.
Director of Urologic Oncology
 
Harold A. Frazier, II, MD, FACS is Clinical Director of Urologic Oncology at The George Washington University Hospital and Associate Clinical Professor of Urology at The George Washington University Medical Center. He is one of the co-founders of the urologic robotic surgery program at the George Washington University, a program that has become the regional leader in this type of surgery.

Prior to his new appointment at GW Hospital, Dr. Frazier served as Chief of Urology with the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, Residency Program Director and Assistant Chairman of Urology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, and Associate Professor of Surgery with The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. While serving in the U.S. Navy, he also worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and filled the role of urologic consultant to the White House Medical Office, and the Congressional Medical Office.

He is one of the specialty-trained physicians at The George Washington University Hospital who performs radical prostatectomies using the new da Vinci®Surgical System. Dr. Frazier treats prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile cancer, surgical adrenal disease, prostatic enlargement, kidney stones, impotency and sexual dysfunction, and incontinence. He performs laparoscopic and robotic surgery, laser procedures, urinary diversion and reconstructive surgery, brachytherapy, transurethral needle ablation (TUNA), and lithotripsy.

Dr. Frazier’s research has been published in the Journal of Urology, Urology, Cancer, Journal of Surgical Oncology, American Journal of Radiology, Radiologic Clinics of North America, Urologic Radiology, Modern Pathology, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Problems in Urology, Journal of Forensic Science, World Journal of Urology, Journal of Ultrasound Medicine, and Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis.

Dr. Frazier received his medical degree with honors from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. He was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and received subspecialty training as a fellow in urologic oncology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

He is licensed by the National Board of Medical Examiners, board certified by the American Board of Urology, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His professional memberships also include the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society, the American Medical Association, the American Urologic Association (AUA), the Mid Atlantic Section of the AUA, the Society of Urologic Oncology, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Washington Urologic Society, the Society of Government Service Urologists, and the Reserve Officers Association of the United States.

Dr. Frazier retired as a Captain in the Medical Corps of the United States Naval Reserve after more than 24 years of service to our country. He was highly regarded as a dynamic educator of countless medical personnel in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) for battlefield and casualty management. His military awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and several Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

Named one of “America’s Top Physicians in Urology” by the Consumer Research Council of America for the last four years, Dr Frazier was also recognized as “2003 Provider of the Year” by Kaiser Permanente West End Medical Center in Washington DC. The Urology residents of GW University Medical Center have twice honored Dr Frazier with their Departmental Teaching Excellence Award.
