Sialoendoscopy

Here at The Center for Salivary Gland Disorders we offer a new treatment for salivary gland stones. Salivary gland stones can be associated with repeated face and/or neck swelling and pain associated with eating. If untreated, they can lead to repeated salivary gland infections and persistent patient discomfort. In the past, if you were diagnosed with a stone which was lodged in the salivary gland, it typically required open surgery and a brief hospital stay.

Pioneered in Europe, sialoendoscopy is a technique which allows for minimally invasive treatment of salivary gland stones as well as treatment of a variety of salivary gland problems. The technique utilizes specially designed endoscopes and other instruments to allow unique access to the salivary ductal system where the interventional procedures are then performed. Special wire baskets for stones, handheld drills, or dilators can be placed through the endoscope to directly visualize the pathology and treat the problem as needed.

This technique can be performed safely with local anesthesia in the office and typically takes 30 min to complete. Patient's can enjoy the return to a normal quality of life as they walk out of the office.
