FERTILITY & IVF
AT THE GW MEDICAL FACULTY ASSOCIATES
Welcome to the Fertility & IVF Center

The journey is about more than medicine. We are the oldest IVF center in the Metropolitan D.C. region and for more than 20 years, the Fertility & IVF Center at The GW Medical Faculty Associates has shepherded families through a maze of challenges. By listening to our clients and communicating our insight, we provide the understanding needed for this journey. From counseling to treatment, we help guide clients through diagnostic steps and therapeutic choices.

Fertility & IVFAs members of the George Washington University faculty, our doctors have trained many of the nation’s experts in the field. The faculty at The Center include pioneers in fertility treatments such as artificial insemination, ovarian stimulation, in vitro fertilization, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), blastocyst embryo culture and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.

Our team offers the care and sensitivity deserved by clients longing for a sense of family completeness. We continue to help families throughout the region — Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Fairfax, McLean, Vienna, and Washington, D.C. — and around the world.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

During your first visit, your doctor will listen carefully to formulate a personalized strategy for your care. That strategy will consider your health history, the health of your partner and your effort to achieve or maintain pregnancy. This detailed history will become the basis for your clinical evaluation and guide the range of tests to be performed. The clinical assessment may include blood work, x-ray or ultrasound imaging, and a similar assessment of your partner.  During this visit, you will be matched to a nurse advocate who will guide you through every step of the clinical process.

Throughout this process you will consult with your doctor to go over the results and to formulate a plan suited to you and your wishes.

Financing

We accept most major insurances and offer Shared Risk with a refund guaranteed for IVF and Donor Egg Cycles.

Natural Cycle IVF

In vitro fertilization is commonly associated with medications which stimulate the ovaries and increase the number of eggs available for fertilization. Some women, though, over-respond to these drugs and can be at risk for multiple birth.

Natural cycle IVF gathers eggs without the use of stimulating drugs. An egg can then be fertilized and the resulting embryo transferred to the womb.

Ours is one of the only IVF centers in the area which offers Natural Cycle IVF. Please call 202-741-2520 for more information or to schedule a consultation.

Congratulations to Drs Gindoff, Dayal, and Frankfurter for being named to the Washington Post’s ‘Super Docs’ list, the Washingtonian Magazine’s ‘Top Docs’ list, and the 2012 Virginia and Consumer’s Checkbook ‘Top Doc’ list.

Congratulations to Dr. Paul Gindoff, MD, Director of the Fertility & IVF Center, and Dr. Travis O'Brien, Ph.D., Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, for receiving a $50,000 award from the National Center for Research Resources (NIH) for their clinical trial on ‘Genetic Factors Associated with Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome.’

Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) affects about one in ten women who go through IVF.  In most cases the condition is mild, but some women get a severe and dangerous form of the syndrome which causes the ovaries to swell and drain fluid into the belly and chest.  It resolves spontaneously but lingers if the patient does get pregnant.

Women are at elevated risk for OHSS if they are younger than 35, have a very high estrogen level during fertility treatment, or have multiple small follicular cysts on their ovaries (PCOS).  Even with these known risk factors, OHSS can strike almost any patient.  Dosing of fertility drugs accounts for known risk factors but largely relies on trial and error.  Therefore, a study to identify biomarkers for patients at risk of OHSS is so important.
