Dr. Chavon Onumah
About Dr. Chavon Onumah

Dr. Chavon Onumah is a General Internal Medicine physician at The GW Medical Faculty Associates. She is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and earned her medical degree at Tulane School of Medicine. She pursued her interest in health disparities at the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine, where she earned her Masters of Public Health degree.


Dr. Onumah completed her Internal Medicine residency and global health training at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Twin Cities, where she served as Chief Resident. She came to Washington with an HIV clinical fellowship awarded by the HIV Medical Association.  She is passionate about HIV awareness counseling with a particular focus on care for HIV-positive women in underserved populations.


Her other clinical interests include Primary Care, HIV Medicine, Preventative Medicine, Women’s Health, healthcare for the homeless, promoting heart disease prevention in women, and Medical Education.


Dr. Onumah believes a mutually engaged patient-doctor relationship plus evidence-based decision making are the recipe for successfully improving the health and quality of life of her patients.
