Nicolas Guzman, MD, is an associate professor of Medicine in the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at The GWU School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Guzman received his M.D. degree from Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru. He underwent his training in Hypertension, Nephrology and Clinical Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School and the University of Florida. Dr. Guzman is a Diplomate in Clinical Hypertension of The American Society of Hypertension, and holds Board Certifications in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
His clinical interest include kidney disease of diabetes mellitus, early kidney protection and prevention of kidney disease, kidney disease as a CV risk factor, glomerulonephritis, resistant hypertension, management of hypertension in the complicated patient, and hypertension in the diabetic patient.
For over 15 years Dr. Guzman directed a research laboratory investigating the molecular mechanisms of the renal and vascular manifestations of diabetes and hypertension receiving continuous funding from NIH and other organizations. He has given numerous presentations and served as advisor to various U.S. agencies including NIH, the VA, and the National Science Foundation, as well as, international organizations, such as the World Bank, UN, and Inter-American Development Bank.
