Anthony Caputy, M.D., F.A.C.S. is currently the chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery and co-director of the Neurologic Institute at The GW Medical Faculty Associates. He is also a professor of neurosurgery at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Caputy is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery residency at Georgetown University in 1986. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Neurological Surgeons, the Washington Academy of Neurological Surgeons, and the Neurosurgical Society of Virginia, having served as President of that society from 2000 to 2002. He has medical staff affiliations at many of the hospitals in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland including the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Caputy is board-certified in Neurological Surgery. He has particular interests in complex spine surgery including instrumentation and reconstruction and is a leader in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery. His other clinical interests include epilepsy surgery, brain tumor surgery including mapping of eloquent areas, surgery for acoustic neuromas, Chiari malformations, vascular neurosurgery including carotid endarterectomies and surgery for spinal tumors. Dr. Caputy is listed among Washingtonian's Top Docs, Castle & Connolly's America's Top Doctors and The Best Doctors in America.
