About Cherie Marfori

Cherie Q. Marfori, MD, FACOG is a surgical gynecologist and Assistant Professor with the George Washington University.  She specializes in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) and is the Fellowship Director of the AAGL/SRS-affiliated fellowship in MIGS.  She is also the Director of GW's Center of Excellence in Minimally-Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (COEMIG).  She enjoys shaping the surgical skills of both her Fellows and Residents alike to ensure that all women, someday, will have access to the benefits of a minimally-invasive surgical approach.

Dr. Marfori enjoys taking care of women with problems across the entire surgical gynecologic spectrum including fibroids, endometriosis, Muellerian anomalies, abnormal pap smears, Asherman’s syndrome, gender dysphoria, and pelvic organ prolapse.  She also is proud to be able to offer her patients the availability and expertise of in-office: flexible and rigid hysteroscopy, ultrasound, ESSURE© placement, colposcopy and LEEP procedures in addition to laparoscopic, robotic and hysteroscopic surgeries in the OR setting.

Dr. Marfori has helped pioneer innovative ways to perform procedures as common as hysterectomy and was named a 2016 "Top Doctor" by Washingtonian magazine.  Her training included a B.S. from Wake Forest University and a medical degree from The University of Virginia.  She went on to complete her residency at The University of Massachusetts and then joined the MFA and completed her fellowship in MIGS there.  She is active in departmental clinical research and has presented this work at national meetings of The American College of OB/GYN (ACOG), American Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL).  She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of ACOG.
