Program Description

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig's or Charcot's disease, is the most common form of motor neuron disorders of adults. Accurate diagnosis, prognosis and treatment implementation require a sophisticated multidisciplinary approach, due to the complexity of ALS syndromes and its variants, which might involve the muscles of the extremities, breathing and voice.

Services Provided

The multidisciplinary ALS/Lou Gehrig Disease Center provides comprehensive care for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The Center has also a role in family education. Furthermore, state-of-the-art clinical research protocols bring patients new avenues in the fight against ALS.

Integral parts of the team approach include:

  • a board-certified neuromuscular neurologist, Elham Bayat, MD
  • a board-certified pulmonologist
  • neuromuscular nurse practitioner
  • a clinical research coordinator
  • physical, occupational, speech and nutritional therapists
  • an ALS specialized social worker

The Center is open from 8:30am - Noon on Wednesdays
