The GW Medical Faculty Associates (GW MFA) earned a score of 99.5% on the 2019 Medicare MACRA/MIPS quality payment program. This score drives Medicare reimbursement, and the GW MFA earned an exceptional performance bonus and an increased reimbursement rate of 1.75% on all 2021 Medicare provider payments.
“This performance reflects the high quality care that our patients deserve and receive at the MFA,” said William Borden, MD, GW MFA chief quality and population health officer. “The MFA has now successfully performed in all three years of the MACRA/MIPS program following a 100% score in 2018 and a 92% score in 2017.”
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) changed the way Medicare reimburses clinicians for “value over volume,” through a program called Merit Based Incentive Payments System (MIPS). Under MIPS, physician performance is measured through four clinician-reported areas — quality, improvement activities, promoting interoperability, and cost. If this performance meets or exceeds the national standards, physicians are awarded in the form of incentives and higher reimbursement rates for Medicare patients.
Quality continues to be top of mind for the GW MFA. Throughout the year, staff and providers continue to focus on improving patient care including preventative health screenings, flu vaccinations, and chronic disease management. Additionally, providers and staff continue to focus on providing stellar customer service, including periodic training for employees.
