Chukwuemeka “Emeka” Ibekwe, MD is a board-certified physiatrist and is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) of the Department of Neurology at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Ibekwe practices general physiatry with interests in stroke rehabilitation, acquired brain injury, spasticity management, and community re-integration. In the inpatient setting, Dr. Ibekwe provides medical consultation for patients who would benefit from PM&R services. His consultation service focuses on the enhancement of quality of life, optimization of longitudinal care, barrier identification and management, and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders that may produce temporary or permanent impairment.
Dr. Ibekwe received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health (LSUH) in New Orleans and completed his internship in Internal Medicine at LSUH –Baton Rouge. He then completed his PM&R residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After completing his training, Dr. Ibekwe practiced at Grady Health System an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level I Trauma Center. At Grady, he led the establishment of the post-stroke outpatient clinics and was instrumental in the restoration of the inpatient consultation service.
