Khalil Diab, MD ATSF is a pulmonologist in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Dr. Diab completed his B.S. in Chemistry at the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. He then obtained his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in 2002. Dr. Diab completed 1 year of internal medicine internship at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, followed by an internship and residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He completed his pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2009. Dr. Diab was on faculty at the Indiana University School of Medicine where he worked as an interventional pulmonologist in the multidisciplinary lung cancer program, and where he was medical director of the intensive care unit at Indiana University Hospital. Dr. Diab was involved in the establishment of the lung cancer screening program at the hospital and utilized the LEAN method of quality of improvement in the intensive care unit to institute changes to ICU practice. Dr. Diab was also involved in the care of alpha 1 antitrypsin deficient and COPD patients, and established the first Alpha One Clinical Resource Center in Indiana. He was involved in multiple clinical trials in alpha one antitrypsin deficiency. Dr. Diab is currently Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
In January 2019, Dr. Diab moved back to his home country of Lebanon where he joined the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury Lebanese American University School of Medicine as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine. At LAU, he established a fellowship program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and was able to start an interventional pulmonary program at the hospital to assist in the management of lung cancer and other malignancies.
Dr. Diab is board certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and interventional pulmonology. His practice includes endobronchial ultrasound, radial ultrasound, endobronchial stent placement, tumor debulking using argon plasma coagulation and cryotherapy, bronchial thermoplasty, pleural procedures including indwelling pleural catheter placement, electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy, endobronchial valve placement, and percutaneous tracheostomy. It also includes COPD management and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Dr. Diab has presented at multiple international conferences and has published in the field of COPD and interventional pulmonology.
