Dr. Lawrence M. DuBuske, MD joined the Division of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Internal Medicine at George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates in Washington, DC in December, 2010 where he is Clinical Professor of Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.. In 2011 he was named by US News and World Report as one of the top allergists-immunologists in the United States on the annual list of US News Top Doctors. In 2012, he has also been named on the annual Castle Connolly list of Top Doctors in the field of allergy including the 2017 Regional Top Doctor Recognition. He see patients at the Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Center, George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, Suite 200, 2300 M Street, Washington, DC , having office hours generally on Tuesdays through Fridays weekly.
Dr. DuBuske, MD formerly was a Consultant in Allergy, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Clinical Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts where he worked for 30 years commencing in 1981 as an Allergy Fellow, then serving on the faculty for 26 years from 1984 to 2010. He has also served, in the past, as the Director and Co-director and Education Coordinator of the Allergy Fellowship Training Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts in the mid-1990’s. At the time of his departure from Harvard Medical School he was being promoted to Assistant Professor. .He has been Director of the Immunology Research Institute of New England in Gardner, Massachusetts since its founding in 1989, a non-profit foundation which assists allergy and immunology research with collaborative projects involving scientists and institutions in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Dr. DuBuske received both his Bachelor of Science degree and Medical Doctorate degree each awarded with Distinction from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois where he also served as President of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society chapter at Northwestern University Medical School (1978). Following a residency in Internal Medicine at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri (1978-1981), Dr. DuBuske completed fellowships in Allergy/Immunology and in Rheumatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston in 1984.
Dr. DuBuske is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians; Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; Fellow of the American Association of Certified Allergists; Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians in addition to being a member of the American Thoracic Society, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, European Respiratory Society, the Clinical Immunology Society and the American Society of Microbiology. He is also a recipient of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Distinguished Fellow Award in 2004.
Dr. DuBuske has received two honorary diplomas from the Polish Allergy Society (2001; 2007) and honoraria diplomas from the Belarusian Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology (2001) and also has honorary Doctorates from the Ukrainian National Medical University, Kiev (2001), Ukraine and the Crimean State Medical University, Simferopol, Crimea, Ukraine, in addition to an honorary professorship from the Crimean State Medical University (2001) and an honorary professorship from the National Research Center - Institute of Immunology, Ministry of Health, Moscow, Russia (2002). In 2010, Dr. DuBuske received a Distinction Diploma from the Ukrainian Society of Allergy and Immunology for his years of service to the allergy and immunology community in Ukraine. He also received a Presidential Recognition Award from INTERASMA during the World Congress of Asthma, Mexico City, Mexico in 2014.
Dr. DuBuske has served as the Chairman of the Practice Standards Council, and as Chairman of the Practice, Diagnostics and Therapeutics Committee, and as Vice Chair of the Healthcare Standards Delivery Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and has served as Chair of the International Committee, Chair of the Credentials Committee, and as Vice Chair for the Literature Review Committee, and on the Board of Regents (2007-2010) of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. In November, 2011, he was elected Speaker of the House of Delegates of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology allowing him to once again serve the Board of Regents of this organization in 2012. He was re-elected to this position in November, 2012 and served on the Board of Regents in this capacity (2012-2013), He has served on the World Allergy Organization’s Communications Council, Emerging Societies Committee, Climate Change Special Committee, and Allergen Diagnostics Special Committee. He has served as Secretary General on the Board of Directors of INTERASMA (the International Association of Asthma), and was named 3rd. Vice President in 2011 and 2nd Vice president in August, 2012, President Elect in January 2015 and President of INTERASMA as of January, 2017. He is a past President and current Treasurer of the American Association of Certified Allergists re-elected to that position in November, 2017.
Currently Dr. DuBuske serves on the editorial boards of Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, and International Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology; and formerly was on the editorial boards of Allergy, Hypersensitivity, Asthma; Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; Drugs; Treatments in Respiratory Medicine (American Journal of Respiratory Medicine), Journal of the World Allergy Organization; and Allergology and Clinical Immunology; and on the Russian Edition – Journal of the World Allergy Organization; in addition to serving as a supplement editor for Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Dr. DuBuske has authored numerous articles and abstracts (more than 300) in Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; Allergy and Asthma Proceedings; Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology; Journal of Immunology; Allergy; and other professional journals in addition to numerous reviews and textbook chapters. He continues to serve as an author for Up To Date’s sections on allergy laboratory diagnostic testing and allergy skin testing.
Dr. DuBuske has been an investigator in over 80 clinical trials and has provided over 1,000 lectures during the past 25 years including over 400 invited lectures in continuing medical education accredited programs in the United States and abroad and over 500 educational lectures related to allergy and asthma therapeutics in non-CME programs throughout the United States. He is an internationally acclaimed expert speaker on topics including allergic rhinitis, antihistamines, asthma, allergic diagnostics, allergen immunotherapy, latex allergy, and new therapies for allergic diseases such as anti-IgE monoclonal antibodies and Toll Like Receptor 4 agonist-modulated Allergen Immunotherapy. He will serve as President of the up-coming World Congress of Asthma in Tokyo, Japan, October, 2018.
