Dr. Patrick McDonough earned his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in Physiology from Georgetown University. Dr. McDonough attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and graduated with honors. He completed his surgical internship and urology residency as a commissioned officer in the United States Army at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Washington. After residency, Dr. McDonough served as the Chief of Urology and founder of the robotic urologic surgical program at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, NC. After 11 years of active duty military service, Dr. McDonough transitioned to the US Army Reserves and civilian urology practice.

During residency, Dr. McDonough trained with some of the leading thinkers in surgical simulation and he remains interested in the use of simulators and virtual reality in the advancement of surgical education. His clinical interests lie in general urology, with particular interest in single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) and other minimally invasive treatments for benign and malignant disorders of the urinary tract. He is a member of the American Urologic Association and the Society of Government Service Urologists.
