Perry Kimball Richardson, MD is Professor of Neurology and Neurological Surgery, and Residency Program Director and Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship Director, Department of Neurology at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates in Washington, DC. He currently is the Director of the EMG laboratory in the Department of Neurology. He holds the honor of being a Commander, Medical Corps, United States Naval Reserve (retired). His interests include the treatment of neuromuscular disease, autoimmune neurological diseases, and neuropathic pain.
Dr. Richardson received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and his medical degree from The George Washington School of Medicine and served a neurology clerkship at the Institute of Neurology in London, United Kingdom. His internship in internal medicine was done at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,California, and his residency in neurology was done at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Illinois. He was also awarded a fellowship in electrodiagnostic medicine by the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda,Maryland.
He is board-certified in Neurology, Pain Medicine, Electrodiagnostic Medicine and in Neurology with Added Qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology. Dr. Richardson was previously on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Head of the Division of Neurology at the Naval Medical Center in Oakland,California. He is an active member of several professional societies including the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Association of University Professors of Neurology and the American Academy of Neurology. He is also a Fellow of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
He has been actively involved in neurologic education and research for almost 20 years, facilitating international collaboration on medical education for international medical graduates, and is the recipient of the John J. Kelly Award for Teaching in his department. He was selected as Chair of the Committee of Undergraduate Medical Curriculum at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He has been the principal investigator or investigator on grants looking at neuropathic pain, botulinum toxin for chronic migraine, postherpetic neuralgia, neurogenic orthostatic hypotension, Gulf War syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome and diabetic neuropathy.
Dr. Richardson has published several articles in the medical literature in journals such as Muscle & Nerve, Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, Trauma, and Archives of Environmental and Occupational Health. Dr. Richardson has lectured regionally, nationally, and internationally. He has always offered his expertise to the community through volunteer presentations, lectures, and screenings.
