Seth Akst, MD, MBA was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. After going away for college, he returned to Cleveland to attend medical school and business school at the Case Western Reserve University. Following an internship in Internal Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center, he received training in Anesthesiology at the Johns Hopkins University. After residency, he performed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the George Washington University. At the completion of his fellowship, Dr. Akst joined the faculty of the George Washington University. He works doing both anesthesiology as well as critical care medicine. He is the director of the vascular anesthesia rotation, the director of transplant anesthesia, and also the liaison for the Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine to the trauma service.

Dr. Akst has two board certifications by the American Board of Anesthesiology, in Anesthesiology as well as Critical Care Medicine. He works as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is also an instructor for Advanced Cardiac Life Support and helps teach Fundamentals of Critical Care Support courses. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Akst's clinical interests include acute care of the injured patient, measurements of perfusion, advanced airway management and teamwork within the acute care environment.
