Eric Liao, M.D., J.D. is a general psychiatrist. He completed his Psychiatry Residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as Chief Outpatient Resident, and at McLean Hospital.
He graduated from medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and also received a juris doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
In addition to working as a hospital psychiatrist, Dr. Liao has a longstanding interest in mental health and the Law. At MGH, he participated in a multidisciplinary committee to facilitate increased utilization of hospitalization for substance treatment under Massachusetts' Section 35 statute. He has contributed to writing about health policy and previously worked as a researcher with both the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law and Physicians for Human Rights.
