Exfoliate & Rejuvenate Your Skin
Another method of exfoliating and rejuvenating the skin, a chemical peel, is the application of an acid, such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic, or combination of acids, to induce a superficial, controlled exfoliation of the skin.
Glycolic acid is derived from sugar and penetrates the skin quickly to loosen dead and damaged skin. This method may produce a mild burning or tingling sensation. Glycolic acid treatments are appropriate for most individuals and skin conditions and are effective in rejuvenation and slowing the aging process.
Salicylic Acid is derived from certain tree barks, or wintergreen leaves. The peels generally come in two concentrations. Low concentrations facilitate rejuvenation of dull, sun-damaged skin. Higher concentrations may be appropriate for skin plagued by acne and acne scarring.
Lactic Acid is derived from milk and penetrates the skin very slowly. Clinicians perform lactic acid peels mostly on sensitive or mature skin to help improve texture and tone and to boost hydration levels. Lactic acid peels come in varying strengths, which may be adjusted during the recommended series of peels over several months.
Vitalyze Peel is a more potent option in chemical peels and uses a combination of lactic acid and salicylic acid, along with resorcinol and liquid retinoic acid. This peel is generally well-tolerated with little downtime. It is primarily used for sun-damaged and hyper pigmented skin, but also may be appropriate for skin affected by premature aging and acne.
