Pregnancy & Hematology Clinic

The GW Medical Faculty Associates, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Department of Hematology & Oncology, cater to your health needs. We are welcoming preconception, pregnant, or post-partum women with specific blood or hematologic conditions that are inherited or acquired to receive specialized care by Dr. Robert Siegel (Hematology). We offer multi-disciplinary exceptional care in an innovative fashion.

Since pregnancy can be a time with increased risk of blood clots or bleeding, especially at delivery, joint visits with our physicians will help optimize your individualized care. We treat the following conditions and disorders:

Bleeding and coagulation disorders:

  • Hemophilia
  • Von Willebrand disease
  • Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
  • Gestational thrombocytopenia
  • Other factor deficiencies and platelet disorders
  • Factor XI deficiency
  • Ehlers Danlos
  • History of severe HELLP
  • TTP
  • Severe postpartum hemorrhage

Clotting disorders:

  • History of blood clot (PE/DVT/stroke, etc)
  • Hereditary clotting disorder (prothrombin gene mutation, factor v leiden gene mutation, protein c deficiency, protein s deficiency, antithrombin III deficiency, etc)
  • Acquired clotting disorder (anti-phospholipid syndrome)

Blood count disorders:

  • Anemias (including but not limited to thalassemia and sickle cell disease)
  • Bone marrow disorders (polycythemia vera, essential thrombocytosis, etc)
