Sclerotherapy is the “gold standard” in cosmetic treatment of spider veins. This treatment involves injecting a sclerosing agent, like saline, into the vein. When the blood is displaced from the vein by the medication, the vessel closes. The closed spider vein is then absorbed by the body.
This procedure had replaced the old “Vein Stripping” operation where a diseased, saphenous vein is removed. Endovenous laser ablation uses a special laser catheter to close off blood flow in the diseased saphenous vein. This procedure is performed in the office with only local anesthesia.
Phlebectomy is the removal of varicose veins through very small incisions. This procedure may be used to remove a single varicose vein or numerous varicose vein clusters and is performed in the office with local anesthesia.
